I’m a full stack developer with a background in Industrial Engineering and 17 years of experience as a nurse. I’m new to full stack development, but I’ve built my career across healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and aerospace—industries that have shaped my adaptability, client focus, and commitment to lifelong learning.
In my early nursing years on the float team, I learned to adapt quickly to changing environments and new workflows. Later, working in Nunavik on the Hudson Bay coast required six weeks of intensive training and the ability to manage medical emergencies with limited resources. These experiences strengthened the same resilience and problem-solving skills I use now when approaching new technologies or unexpected issues in code.
Driven by curiosity about how things work, I completed a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, graduating with Distinction. Through the co-op program, I completed internships in the aerospace industry and later worked in the project management office supporting the opening of the Glen Superhospital. These seven years reinforced my interest in systems thinking and my ability to shift direction when I’m motivated by a clear purpose.
Afterward, I spent nearly a decade in the pharmaceutical industry. My role involved supporting patients receiving high-cost medications while navigating varying insurance systems, clinic schedules, pharmacy coordination, and frequent last-minute changes. This required multitasking, staying calm under pressure, and finding creative solutions—abilities that translate directly into managing complexity as a full stack developer.
During the Full Stack Developer program at John Abbott College, I strengthened my capacity to learn quickly. We regularly encountered new languages and frameworks, and I took initiative with mini-projects that required researching technologies outside the curriculum, such as NoSQL databases and WordPress plugin development. These experiences built my confidence in troubleshooting, self-directed learning, and investigating why something “isn’t working,” which is often at the heart of software development.
Although I’m early in my programming journey, my experience, curiosity, and determination to show up every day make me confident that I will grow into a strong developer and contribute meaningfully to your team. Thank you for considering my application.
